On May 3rd Thursday, SSI Boys’ Soccer team achieved its first victory against BIS. The game took place at the Seongnam soccer field in the late afternoon despite the heavy rain. The wet field did not stop the SSI soccer players from playing their best match yet. SSI athletes mainly focused on communicating with each other on the field. The team dominated the game by scoring 13 goals.
In the first half, the game started with Captain Junyoung Lee’s early goal. The team showed its strength and passionate play as soon as the match started. The muddy field didn’t deter the players but instead fired up their spirit. Closely following Lee’s goal, ninth grader Junhee scored four more goals assisted by the back up line that supported the offense by providing neat defense and spreading key passes.
In the second half, after a brief chat with the team coach Jason Chung, the team changed its formation, switching defense and offense players. Eleventh grader Seunghyun Lee started at the top, and the team continued to play its powerful and strategic game. Compared to previous games, athletes communicated with each other and showed outstanding sportsmanship. Unfortunately, the team missed a goal at the last minute even though twelfth-grader Jaewon Shim had been recording a clean sheet.
SSI soccer team will be competing in several more games in June and will continue to show off their soccer skills in future matches.
